Sordid Tales: Violence by Police OfficersOne transgender woman I knew was assaulted by a date in her own apartment. Her neighbour, an older woman across the hall who looked out for her, called 911 when she heard the screams. The police came, and the first officer on the scene said to the transgender woman, "If I had known it was you, I would have taken my time." If a person works in the sex trade, then it goes with the territory that once in a while a date will turn out badly. The principal violence in this sordid tale is the statement by the policeman. My case is going to court soon. It's been three years and nothing has really changed. Just last week I was called by a non-transgender friend who went out with the police as an observer. He told me he was appalled at how they are still treating 'trannies.' Harassing them, calling them by their male names. I am taking the police to court over the discriminatory treatment that I experienced.
